SCORES

Mission Statement

Bay Area SCORES, an affiliate of America SCORES, empowers students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression, and service-learning. With teamwork as the unifying value, Bay Area SCORES inspires youth to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged students, and become agents of change in their communities.

History

In 2001, BAY AREA SCORES was a glimmer of possibility. Now it's 7 years later and today, SCORES is currently at 24 public elementary schools in San Francisco, Oakland and in our newest region of West Contra Costa County. Bay Area SCORES plans to expand into more schools in the upcoming 2007-2008 school year and is soon to be the largest affiliate site of America SCORES.

Soccer & Literacy

For 10-12 weeks each Fall and Spring, Bay Area SCORES provides a comprehensive after-school program 4-5 days a week. SCORES is FREE and offered to public elementary school children, ages 8-12. In the Fall, the focus is poetry and creative writing while in the Spring, the children engage in the Writing for the Community project.
