Second Grade

On October 28th, second grade took an exciting field trip to the Mission District, where we observed and discussed the many murals that demonstrate the  historical and cultural richness of the neighborhood.  We also enjoyed a guided visit to the Mission Cultural Center’s Day of the Dead exhibition.  We thanked our hosts with carefully-composed letters.  Our young writers are now engaged in writing imaginative first-person narratives.  In math we continue to explore the mathematics of  money and are  making progress regrouping for addition and subtraction.  Best of all, we are reading leveled books every day, developing new strategies to fully understand what they read.  Our current priority is to make personal connections (me to book), literary connections (book to book) and world connections (real life to book)  to our texts.

Coming soon: GLAD strategies!
